They say that God gives us memory so that we may have roses in December. Yet here in Oxford I have a real lavender bush right outside the front door – pouring out its fragrance even when the summer sun is no longer shining. Perhaps the bush knows that this ageing lady's memory is no longer quite what it was.... |
