Cedar is a wood that protects against moths. It is very fragrant. Certainly it smells better than moth balls! Small blocks or even hearts of cedar are placed in drawers and closets to protect clothing.

When it used to be the custom for young girls to sew linens and keep them in hope chests before marriage, many of these chests were made of cedar.
