'The State We're Still In' – Oh Lord, the title of a book that should be written now as trenchant criticism of the continuing mess that (you've guessed it)the longed for Labour govt.........

Georgia's best known nickname is the Peach State. Georgia is also called the Empire State of the South sometimes.

Nebraska is known as the Cornhusker State. Another nickname for Nebraska is the Beef State.

Kansas has two nicknames: the Sunflower State and the Jayhawk State.

Somewhere I read that Montana is known as The Treasure State. Heh? I have to say that, as we drove across the endless corn fields for hour after hour and were happy to see an odd coyote or distant farmer on a tractor to break the monotony, I thought the state's other name of Big Sky Country was far more appropriate.

This was the state of matters, on the afternoon of, what I may be excused for calling, that eventful and important Friday. I can make no claim therefore to have known, at that time, how matters stood; or to have any remembrance, founded on the evidence of my own senses, of what follows.
