Texas, both as state and state of mind, is a place to avoid at all costs. I have never met anyone who grew up in Texas that did not grow more tiresome, bothersome, and altogether contemptible with long acquaintanceship.

This is, of course, a prejudice, of little value, and almost certainly due to statistical error. It is also likely that all of the Texans I have met and known for any length of time would reciprocate my antipathy.
